Background
*Waiting for Godot* is originally a tragicomedy play by Irish writer Samuel Beckett. In the play, two characters endlessly wait for someone named Godot—who never arrives. Many interpret Godot to symbolize God, hope, or purpose, and his absence speaks to the despair and absurdity of life.
Project Story
This interactive VR adaptation builds on Beckett’s structure but becomes a standalone experience. The tone is intentionally sarcastic and satirical.
Told from a first-person perspective, the audience is given the task of “finding Godot.” No details are provided upfront. Players journey through three bizarre, contrasting worlds, each with its own smells and characters offering fragments of truth (or lies) about Godot.
Theme: Existentialism
After WWII, existentialist philosophy argued that life has no inherent meaning—but that we can choose to create our own meaning. This project invites users to reflect on meaning, absurdity, and self-awareness through digital immersion.
