The Earth Museum 2.0 (VR)

Tools: Unreal Engine 5 + Max

Project Type: Personal Project

Video Demo:

Ride Machine:

For the ride component, I used Max to communicate between the ride machine and UE5. By implementing a plane in Blueprint, I was able to control the direction of the ride machine via the orientation of the virtual plane.

Inspiration: Truman’s World

Overview:

"The Earth Museum" is a surreal escape-room-meets-ride VR experience. It begins with a player locked in a claustrophobic room full of posters and furniture, unable to see outside. Through exploration and discovery, the story unfolds into something far more unexpected...

  1. Beginning the Game:
    • The player starts in an enclosed room, classic escape-room style.
    • The space is cluttered with posters and furniture, hiding what lies beyond.
  2. Finding the Axe:
    • By tearing off posters, the player finds an axe hidden behind the wall.
    • The axe is used to break through and escape.
  3. The Twist:
    • Breaking the wall reveals not freedom—but a giant futuristic exhibit.
    • The entire experience was a simulation inside the Earth Museum.
  4. Being Watched:
    • The player realizes their actions were being watched the whole time.
    • Behind transparent walls, museum-goers are now observing them as an exhibit.
  5. Exploring the Earth Museum:
    • The player encounters other “exhibits,” including animals and cultural objects.
    • Their world becomes one display among many.
  6. Using the Axe to Help Others:
    • The player can now choose to break other enclosures and help others escape.

  7. Uncovering the Museum's Secrets:
    • Each freed exhibit reveals more about the museum’s mysterious purpose.
    • The player learns the deeper story behind their own capture.
  8. Multiple Endings:
    • Choices determine the final outcome of the narrative.
    • From heroic escape to peaceful resolution, many endings are possible.
